Šta je to stres?
Općenito, stres se može opisati kao stanje poremećene psihotjelesne ravnoteže pojedinca nastalo zbog tjelesne, psihičke ili socijalne ugroženosti pojedinca ili njemu bliske osobe . Te se sam stres pojavljuje kada pojedinac percipira da su zahtjevi okoline prezahtjevni te da se s njima ne može suočiti.
Pojedinci koji u nekom društvu predstavljaju manjinsku skupinu posebno su izloženi negativnom utjecaju socijalnog stresa s obzirom da se svakodnevno susreću sa diskriminacijom i predrasudama od strane pripadnika većinske populacije.
Manjiski stres
Manjinski stres odnosi se na specifične stresore s kojima se suočavaju pripadnici manjinskih grupa, a koji proističu iz njihove marginalizacije i stigmatizacije. Za LGBTQI+ populaciju, ovo može uključivati diskriminaciju, predrasude, stigmu, i nasilje, što može imati dubok uticaj na njihovo mentalno zdravlje i dobrobit.
Manjinski stres je koncept koji su razvili istraživači da bi opisali hronični stres kojem su izloženi pripadnici stigmatizovanih manjinskih grupa. Razlikuje se od opšteg stresa, jer je specifičan za manjinske identitete i proizlazi iz neprijateljskog i negativnog društvenog okruženja.
Faktori manjinskog stresa kod LGBTQI+ populacije
Diskriminacija i predrasude: Otvorene i prikrivene forme diskriminacije mogu uključivati verbalne i fizičke napade, odbijanje usluga, ili nepovoljno tretiranje na radnom mjestu.
Stigma i internalizovana homofobija: Društvena stigma može dovesti do toga da pojedinci internalizuju negativne stavove prema svojoj seksualnoj orijentaciji ili rodnom identitetu, što može rezultirati niskim samopoštovanjem i samopreziranjem.
Izolacija i odbacivanje: LGBTQI+ osobe često doživljavaju odbacivanje od strane porodice, prijatelja, ili zajednice, što može voditi ka socijalnoj izolaciji.
Mikroagresije: Svakodnevne, suptilne uvrede ili degradirajući komentari koji mogu djelovati benigno, ali imaju kumulativni negativni efekat na mentalno zdravlje.
Problem sa manjinskim stresom je taj što on nikada ne nestaje, uvijek postoji još neko kome će pojedinac morati izjasniti svoju seksualnost, uvijek postoji još neko ko će ga/ju zasuti homofobijom i mržnjom onda kada on/a to najmanje očekuje, uvijek postoji neka društvena prilika koja će mu biti uskraćena zbog diskriminacije većinske populacije.
Uticaj manjinskog stresa na mentalno zdravlje
Studije su pokazale da manjinski stres može dovesti do niza mentalnih zdravstvenih problema kod LGBTQI+ osoba, uključujući:
- Anksioznost i depresija: Viši nivo stresa povezan je sa višim nivoima anksioznosti i depresije.
- Posttraumatski stresni poremećaj (PTSP): Iskustva nasilja i diskriminacije mogu dovesti do razvoja PTSP-a.
- Suicidalne misli i ponašanja: LGBTQI+ populacija ima višu stopu suicidalnih misli i pokušaja samoubistva u poređenju sa heteroseksualnom populacijom.
- Poremećaji u ishrani i zloupotreba supstanci: Kao način nošenja sa stresom, neki pripadnici LGBTQI+ zajednice razvijaju poremećaje u ishrani ili se okreću zloupotrebi supstanci.
Strategije za smanjenje manjinskog stresa
- Podrška i inkluzivnost: Promocija inkluzivnog i podržavajućeg okruženja u školama, radnim mjestima, i zajednicama.
- Psihoterapija i savjetovanje: Terapeuti koji su obučeni za rad sa LGBTQI+ populacijom mogu pružiti specijalizovanu podršku.
- Pravna zaštita: Zakonodavne mjere koje štite prava LGBTQI+ osoba mogu smanjiti nivo diskriminacije i nasilja.
- Zagovaranje i obrazovanje: Povećanje svjesti o problemima s kojima se suočava LGBTQI+ populacija kroz obrazovne programe i kampanje.
Bitan aspekt vječne borbe sa manjinskim stresom u LGBTQI+ osoba je taj da trebaju shvatiti kako problem ne leži u njima, već u ljudima koji ih diskriminiraju. Vrlo je bitno ne asimilirati se na homofobiju s kojom se suočavaju.
Neki dokazi pokazuju kako redovita tjelovježba, upravljanje kognitivnim stresom u ponašanju i druge vrste intervencija za smanjenje stresa mogu pružiti pomoć u ublažavanju manjinskog stresa, ali ne uklanjaju homofobiju ili drugu diskriminaciju iz čovjekovog života.
Stoga tijekom mjeseca u kojem se slavi ponos, važno je imati na umu koliko nametnuti stres može utjecati na ljude, pogotovo na najugroženije članove LGBTQI+ zajednice.
Zaključak
Manjinski stres je ozbiljan problem koji značajno utiče na mentalno zdravlje LGBTQI+ populacije. Razumijevanje i prepoznavanje specifičnih stresora s kojima se suočavaju pripadnici ove zajednice prvi je korak ka kreiranju podržavajućih i inkluzivnih okruženja koja mogu smanjiti nivo stresa i poboljšati kvalitet njihovog života. Potrebno je kontinuirano raditi na promovisanju tolerancije, zaštiti prava i pružanju adekvatne psihološke podrške kako bi se smanjili negativni efekti manjinskog stresa.
